CUT

It’s the cut that makes the difference!

The cut does not refer to the overall shape of the diamonds but rather the quality of the cutting. It is the single most important aspect of any diamond.

The cut refers to the proportion, finish and symmetry of the external facets of the diamond. These elements determine the light performance which determines the fire and brilliance; a diamond cut to ideal proportions has the ultimate sparkle.

A diamond may appear colourless and flawless but if it is not cut well it will appear dull and lifeless. When a diamond is cut to ideal proportions, it has precisely measured angles, designed for the optimal balance of fire, brilliance and scintillation, allowing the light to to return to the top of the diamond and radiate. If it is cut too shallow it may appear larger from the top than another diamond of the same carat weight, however the light will escape out of the bottom of the stone. Other diamonds are cut too deep and light will escape out the side of the diamond. The cut of the diamond is often confused with the shape of the diamond, for example ‘Brilliant cut’ ‘Princess Cut’ and ‘Cushion cut.’ These shapes and more are available to be used in a custom design made in our workshop. We recommend selecting a diamond of the highest cut grade within your budget, and if necessary compromising in other areas.

COLOUR

A diamonds colour is determined on a precise diamond colour scale which ranges from D (colourless) to Z (yellow/brown)

The most sought after diamonds have no colour. The colour tint is caused by the effect of impurities within the stone, nitrogen is what is responsible for giving diamonds a yellow tint.

We recommend diamonds above the grade of I (near colourless). Our experts will work with you to find the right colour grade to suit your requirements.

CLARITY

Clarity refers to the amount and size of natural imperfections in the diamond. This may be internal (inclusions) or external (blemishes). We like to consider this as the diamonds natural birth mark; a true flawless diamond is extremely rare and priced accordingly. Diamonds inclusions are detected under 10 x magnifications. We recommend diamonds from clarity grade SI2 and above as inclusions in diamonds graded above SI2 are said to be near impossible to detect with the naked eye.

The fewer inclusions in a diamond, the rarer and more valuable the gem. Keep in mind as clarity rises so does the pricing. Book an appointment with our design professionals to select the perfect diamond for your requirements.

CARAT

Carat is the unit in which a diamonds weight is measured. Two diamonds of the same carat weight may not measure the same across the top in millimetres. Although, if two diamonds could mirror all other characteristics the price would rise as the carat size does. It is important to remember that diamonds other characteristics contribute to the overall price of the diamond meaning that two diamonds with the same carat weight can vary in price. A smaller diamond of superior quality and brilliance can outshine a larger diamond where quality has been compromised for size. A diamonds value is not based on carat size alone.

We believe selecting s diamond of purity and rare beauty surpasses size every time. Although, if size does matter, we can source stones to suit your requirements.
